What are the five steps that a parent could take to keep Cyberbullying away!

What is Cyberbullying?

A lot of parents will find it difficult in relating to the type of cyberbullying in today's date. It is because, for a lot of us, bullying might not sound the same, it has for years mean a form of isolation, saddening moments such as the spread of a rumor, a nasty comment passed by the students in class, or some of the confrontations. This is what bullying meant and lead to the day that was decades before. But today, it is entirely different when talking about a picture of bullying, or specifically, cyber bullying in to a world that not many adults would want to step into today.

Cyberbullying targets a non stop number of people. And they target quite anonymously in the digital world. It is an emotional assault that is far reaching and will shatter the esteem of the people. Also, the worst component of this term is its nature of the internet display ads that provide a lot of accessibility to the kids of every threat. One needs to know that anyone can be a victim of bullying at any time, and it also spread like a forest fire.

The cyberbullying nature is such that it can even target a strong individual and make him a victim of hopelessness and powerlessness. If you think to skip school or college to get away with bullying, it would not matter, because the internet does not stop it. Your vacation does not erase it. It is only because the internet is present throughout.

As per the inception survey, the report says that bullying has increased by 25% with each passing year. The respondents are bullied more than one time, and the reported bullying takes place on different social networking sites

33% of young people surveyed said that they believe the behavior of politicians influences how people treat each other at school. Bullying has resulted in loneliness, self insufficiency towards their appearance, anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts.

The Most Vulnerable Victim

Reports show that there are more vulnerable victims than others. That is, the females experience more cyberbullying than the males. The ones belonging to the LGBTQ teens have been cyberbullied more when compared to their heterosexual pals, as said by the reports of 2019. The gamers union is another such community that is a victim of experiencing high cyberbullying is gamers.

Finally, it should be stated to the parents, that the fact is cyberbullying and suicide may be connected to each other. The suicidal depressive thoughts from the online world lead to more suicidal thoughts than what the previous bullying lead to.

What Can The Parents Do?

Provide attention to your kid's emotional status and know how the online activities are impacting them emotionally. Understand their behavior online and know why a certain interest is there in them.

Your Power needs to be Layered Up. Kids need to be limited in a world where the content is unlimited and parents are busy. One solution for that? Make technology your partner in parenting —keep eyes and ears on your kids — if you want to help them in reducing the risk online.

Prioritize the community. If your child is socially connected, it will help them in playing a great role in eliminating the cyberbullying impacts

Do not restrict, in stead try limiting them. If you doubt that your child is going through a tough time in the internet, you must never restrict them to staying online. They will be needing the connection with their friends. What you can do is help them with balancing their time online.

Give them support for their Mental Health. We are living in a world that goes through a lot of crucial times. The digital and social attributes to our kids are quite unmatched. Not all emotional symptoms are outward, some are subtle, while some others are non-existent. This is why it is very important to take time for assessing how your child is doing in life. Provide them with additional help if needed.

Concluding Words

On every new year, you get 365 new chances to do things in a better way than it was done before. a little bit better than we've done them in the past. We cannot fully stop our kids from doing mistakes but of course, can take possible means that will help in reducing their vulnerability online.
